Are you an October baby or October bride? Opal is October’s stone and I think you will find a great
resemblance to it in this necklace.
This necklace is made of round, sea opal glass beads and Swarovski opal-colored bicone beads. As an opal
wearer myself, I have been delighted by the color of sea opal glass. All of the beads are transparent, but they
have a varying blue, green and pink luster to them, just as an opal flashes those colors.
Oddly enough, the beads change color depending on what is backing them. They appear to be a semi-opaque
white with opalescence when placed against white or flesh tones, but are very blue-green when placed against
darker colors (I have multiple pictures to show how the colors change on different backgrounds and angles).
I think you will find that the actual necklace is much better in person than in picture. Even the bead catalog
where I order the beads cannot take a photograph to adequately display the pretty colors in the glass.
The necklace is approximately 17” long, inclusive of clasp. It is triple-strung on 5lb test parachute cord for
durability. The bicone (diamond-shaped) beads are genuine Swarovski crystal. The gold beads, clasp and
findings are 10k heavy gold plate.

This necklace—rather the glass heart—has an interesting story behind it. I was cleaning some metal bits out of
our fire pit in the backyard, when I saw this heart lying in the ashes. I vaguely remember getting it a couple of
years ago; how it ended up in our fire pit, I have no idea. The only thing I can figure out is that it must have
been on the bar in the kitchen and the cat knocked it into one of our bags of trash to burn. So it’s undoubtedly
been burned and has laid in the ashes while multiple fires have been built over it, and yet it survived in tact. It is
a phoenix heart, rising (literally) from the ashes.
The necklace itself is made from 11 strands of opaque red iridescent beads with a matte finish, plus one strand
of genuine freshwater pearls. The cones are sterling silver from the Hill Tribes, an indigenous people in Thailand
who make silver beads by hand as part of their culture. The clasps and other findings are sterling silver as well.
The necklace is approximately 20” long, plus the heart is 2” long.
