Welcome to The Medieval Nun

I specialize in ecclesiastical garments, religious jewelry and decoration, and wedding accessories.  And to a lesser
extent I also make non-church related items, such as knitted hats, jewelry, home decor and whatever new thing
I'm trying my hand at this week.

Besides merchandise, you will also find an ever-growing assortment of informative and educational reading
available here--medieval and religious in nature, of course.  I would like to introduce you all to some of the
medieval and biblical readings that I myself have found interesting.

New

I am still here, and still available for custom orders.  Due to economic collapse that happened shortly after I was
laid-off, I have not been able to make a go of doing this as a full-time business.  I am currently looking for
regular, full-time employment.  However, I have every intention of continuing to make and sell things as a
second, part-time job.  How long your special-order will take depends on the complexity and what I already have
on my plate, but it's a good rule of thumb to order at least two months before you actually need something.

I am in the process of transitioning away from my Etsy store; there is just too much competition on there and I
want to get away from jewelry for general wear and concentrate only on religious items (which will include
some jewelry).  I believe I have found a way for you to purchase from me directly using PayPal.  I will be re-
working the website in the near future to allow direct sales (commissions will go through PayPal via e-mail).

In September, I was baptised and confirmed in the Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Murfreesboro, TN.

  • 10/27/09 - I just completed a baptismal tank skirt (see Religious, Church and Home) and a cotta (see
Religious, Misc.) on commission.  Please don't let your imagination be limited to baptismal tank skirts; I
can paint medieval designs on cushions, banners, wall-hangings, and more.

Organization of the Website

  • In "Jewelry" you will find everyday jewelry.  Religious jewelry will be in the "Religious" section and bridal
jewelry will be in the "Weddings" section.  All jewelry in the wedding section, however, is white or off-
white.  If you are looking for something with color for a bridesmaid, check the regular "Jewelry" section,
or contact me about having an existing wedding necklace made up using colored beads.
  • In the "Religious" section you will find everything having to do with religion and church: vestments, altar
goods, rosaries, first communion items, christening items, religious jewelry, religious wall art.
  • In the "Weddings" section you will find wedding goods: dresses, veils, jewelry, flowers, favors, etc.
  • "Links" contains links to sites: such as the one that graciously gave me permission to use all the lovely
medieval backgrounds I have here; educational websites that I use for medieval research; and places
    where I do business.
  • "Prayers" contains medieval prayers and any others that I come across that I think are lovely.
  • "Psalms" consists of excerpts of all of the psalms, which can be prayed daily or weekly.
  • "St. Thomas Aquinas" is a look at some of St. Thomas's philosophical arguments about God.  Despite the
fact that he was a 13th century man, St. Thomas used such sound reasoning that he is studied in the
Catholic Church today, and he's usually required reading for philosophy classes dealing with religion.
Have no fear, though; I have left out the ugliest bits that no one can really understand, and I've interpreted
the rest for a modern audience.  Instead of Cliff's Notes on St. Thomas, it's Keri's Notes on St. Thomas.
As this is a long project, I will not have it up all at once.  Rather, it will come in semi-regular installments
as I have time to interpret and write it up.  Check back once a week or so for a new debate.  Or track my
more personal relationship with the project via my new blog.
  • "Wedding Vows" contains quotes--mostly Biblical--which ministers or couples may wish to use in the
    wedding ceremony or vows.
  • "About Me" is pretty self-explanatory.
  • "My Blog" is a link to my blog.  It hasn't much rhyme or reason to it.  I talk about funny things the cat or
horse have done, the local town scandal, how my business is progressing, and occasionally my thoughts
on random things.  After all, a blog is supposed to be something like a diary.
  • "Gallery" is a link to my Flickr site and contains pictures and written details of some of the work I've
done for myself, my husband, and for friends.
  • "Guestbook" is where you can leave a little note to me that others can see.  You pretty much put the same
sort of thing in an online guestbook as you would in a guestbook at a B&B or historic attraction.
  • "Squidoo Lenses" is where I have been writing articles (lenses) on Squidoo.  Most of these articles
contain my research on various medieval topics.  If you are interested in making your own medieval
clothing, for instance, I have an article on what patterns and fabric to use.
