Welcome to The Medieval Nun

I specialize in ecclesiastical garments, religious jewelry and decoration, and wedding accessories.  And to a lesser
extent I also make non-church related items, such as knitted hats, jewelry, home decor and whatever new thing
I'm trying my hand at this week.

Besides merchandise, you will also find an ever-growing assortment of informative and educational reading
available here--medieval and religious in nature, of course.  I would like to introduce you all to some of the
medieval and biblical readings that I myself have found interesting.

This business was started when I was laid off from my full-time position as a legal secretary in commercial real
estate.  I had long been unhappy with a standard job, which left me no room for creativity, so my husband and I
decided to take this opportunity of unemployment to see if I could turn it into something better.  I've been
wanting to do this for so long, I think God caused me to have this opportunity, and I plan on making the best use
of it I can.

Purchasing

You may purchase all of my goods through my Etsy store The Medieval Nun at Etsy.  Etsy is the largest online
marketplace for handmade goods.  It works something like eBay, only without the bidding process; you are
buying direct from the artist, Etsy just handles the transaction (it has a transaction guarantee similar to eBay).

I also have all of my items cross-referenced at my eCrater store,
The Medieval Nun at eCrater.  ECrater isn't as
visually pleasing as Etsy (it's the exact same concept), but it doesn't cost me anything to market my goods there,
so I'm trying it out.

All of the items listed on this website are in my eCrater and Etsy stores, with one exception: because eCrater
doesn't charge fees, my doll jewelry is listed only on it (if I had to pay fees on it, it would end up too expensive
to sell).  And all of the items on my eCrater and Etsy stores are here, with the exception of clearance items.

Note:  For those items listed here, please be aware that if you click the "Buy this item" link, another
window will pop up linking you to that item at my Etsy or eCrater store.  I cannot currently sell
products directly from this site, so you will need to buy the item through my Etsy or eCrater stores.
They are secure.

New

  • 2/4/09 - After some phone line trouble, followed shortly thereafter by a complete crash of my computer, I
am back up and running.  I am in the process of adding new clearance jewelry items to Etsy.  I also have
a wedding veil up for sale and will take custom orders (please contact me at the e-mail below).  I am also
lowering the prices on some of my jewelry items; look for new prices over the next couple of weeks.

  • 1/6/09 - MSN released a story today about how the Church of England had published prayers for those
who are laid-off, and for those who remain behind in the workplace, but they didn't publish the actual
prayers.  It took some hunting, but I was able to find them.  They are in my "Prayers" section if you need
them (there is also one for people distraught over the economy in general).

  • 12/30/08 - I am now offering vestment repair.  See my "Religious" section for more information on how
    to get your vestment repaired.

  • 12/28/08 - I have added a page, "The Medieval Church," to Misc. Info.  It details the hierarchy of the
medieval Catholic church, vestment names and uses, and more.  I am still adding some information, so
check it again in a few weeks.

Organization of the Website

  • In "Toys" you will find jewelry, as well as medieval clothing and clothing patterns for 11.5" dolls.
Contact me if you would like to custom order jewelry for a different size doll.
  • In "House and Garden" you will find goods for your home and outdoors: re-conditioned antique cast iron,
hand-forged camping equipment, fireplace goods, decorative items.
  • In "Jewelry" you will find everyday jewelry.  Religious jewelry will be in the "Religious" section and bridal
jewelry will be in the "Weddings" section.  All jewelry in the wedding section, however, is white or off-
white.  If you are looking for something with color for a bridesmaid, check the regular "Jewelry" section,
or contact me about having an existing wedding necklace made up using colored beads.
  • In the "Religious" section you will find everything having to do with religion and church: vestments, altar
goods, rosaries, first communion items, christening items, religious jewelry, religious wall art.
  • In "Wearables" you will find things to wear which are not religious or wedding-related: hats, mittens,
    scarves, dresses, aprons.
  • In the "Weddings" section you will find wedding goods: dresses, veils, jewelry, flowers, favors, etc.

As I am just getting started on this business venture, I am still building my inventory, so not everything listed
above is offered yet, but I plan on offering it.  I do special orders on a limited basis, so if you see something you
want--such as something that's already been sold, or a necklace in gold that you would like in silver--please
contact me to see if I can custom make it for you.  Even if I cannot make what you want, it helps me know
which  items are popular so I can concentrate on adding more.

  • "Links" contains links to sites: such as the one that graciously gave me permission to use all the lovely
medieval backgrounds I have here; educational websites that I use for medieval research; and places
    where I do business.
  • "Prayers" contains medieval prayers and any others that I come across that I think are lovely.
  • "Psalms" consists of excerpts of all of the psalms, which can be prayed daily or weekly.
  • "St. Thomas Aquinas" is a look at some of St. Thomas's philosophical arguments about God.  Despite the
fact that he was a 13th century man, St. Thomas used such sound reasoning that he is studied in the
Catholic Church today, and he's usually required reading for philosophy classes dealing with religion.
Have no fear, though; I have left out the ugliest bits that no one can really understand, and I've interpreted
the rest for a modern audience.  Instead of Cliff's Notes on St. Thomas, it's Keri's Notes
